Rules
A trials course consists of a large number of “lines” which are specific paths to take over a set of obstacles. For example, a line might include hopping onto a box, riding across a skinny rail, then hopping to the ground. Riders compete to complete as many lines as possible in the time allotted. Each completed line results in a point that will be recorded on the rider’s scorecard.

There are separate categories for Beginner and Advanced. All riders share the same course with sections of three different difficulties:

Green: easy
Blue: advanced
Black: expert

Riders may attempt any problem multiple times at any time during the competition period until they succeed or decide to abandon the section. However, it is not possible to earn additional points by cleaning a section more than once, and no points are awarded if the rider does not clean the entire section. Beginners are allowed a hand on 'green' (easy) sections for a half-point. If a beginner completes a 'green' line without a hand they receive the full point. Any rider who completes a 'blue' (mid-range difficulty) section are automatically moved into advanced and only full points on 'green' lines are counted towards their total. All riders who successfully ride 100% of the 'blue' lines will automatically receive the points from all the 'green' lines, without having to ride them. ‘Black’ (expert) sections are the most difficult (and potentially dangerous), and should be attempted only by riders with significant experience. It is intended that these section distinguish the abilities of the top competitors.

In addition to the IUF rules and USA rules governing trials competitions the following rules will apply:

  • No rider may attempt any obstacle prior to the start of the competition.
  • Intentional modification of a section by riders or spectators is prohibited.
  • Safety gear: Shoes, shin guards, helmet required (gloves and knee pads are recommended)
  • Any unicycle may be used. There is no restriction on changing unicycles during the competition.
  • The rider is responsible for his or her scorecard. If it becomes damaged, the rider can ask the Event Director for a new one. If it becomes lost, the rider will be issued a new card but their score will return to zero.
  • Competitors should turn in their scorecards as soon as they have completed all the sections that they can or desire to. The time at which the scorecard is turned in will help determine tiebreakers.
