Overview
Yes, unicycle basketball is exactly what it sounds like: two teams of 5 players each playing full-court basketball! It is the ultimate “hard core” sport, because nothing works your core like constantly switching directions on a unicycle, and nobody does that more than someone playing basketball on a unicycle!
Location:
Liberty Common High School (2745 Minnesota Dr, Fort Collins, CO 80525). Parking is available in the north-east parking lot or on the street adjacent to the school. NO NEIGHBORHOOD PARKING! Bathrooms and water are available inside the main building.
Schedule:
Referee Workshop:
Monday, July 8, 7-8pm Liberty Common High School. Open to all, highly recommended for all competitors, each team must have two players attend: its captain plus one other player.
Competition:
Wednesday, July 10, 11am to 4pm – Liberty Common High School gym. Please arrive at least 20 minutes early so we can get officials, refs, scorekeepers, and other volunteers lined up and ready to go.
Initial games will be either round robin or double-elimination depending on number of teams.
There will be a 3rd place game at 3pm, and Championship at 3:30pm
Rules
The rules will be based on the current version of the IUF Rules (Part 15), however, the director will post a final version with any NAUCC-specific prior to the referee workshop.
Safety Gear & Equipment
Shoes must be worn. No open-toed shoes or sandals.
Short shoelaces, or laces tucked in
Part of the goal to achieve a safe environment is not to have any type of metal or sharp object where a player could easily hit or fall on it. Therefore: No jewelry (watches, necklaces, earrings)
Unicycles Only standard unicycles may be used. The maximum outer diameter of the wheel is 640 mm (24+ Class) with no minimum crank length, and must be ungeared, direct drive (no chains, no giraffes).
In addition, the unicycles must not have sharp or protruding parts anywhere that might cause injuries. Quick-release levers and bolts, for example, must be folded back and not excessively long.
The pedals must be plastic or rubber. Note: plastic/nylon pedals that have metal studs or any part of the platform that is metal are prohibited.
Rider Identification All players of a team must wear shirts of the same color. The color must be clearly different from the opponent’s color. At tournaments and other large events each team should have two different colored sets of shirts
